Campus Journalism Participation and Language Proficiency Among Elementary School Learners in Sta. Crus North District

The study unfolded the extent of campus journalism participation and its association with language proficiency among Elementary School learners in Sta. Cruz North District, Davao del Sur Schools Division. The study used non-experimental descriptive-correlational research design, where it utilized adapted survey instrument to gather responses from the randomly selected teacher-respondents. Data gathered were treated using Mean scores with descriptive interpretation, Pearson r and Simple Linear Regression Analysis. Findings revealed that the extent of campus journalism participation in terms of regularity of publication, community engagement, quality of content, awards and recognition and student leadership denotes moderately extensive, and likewise with learners’ language proficiency in terms of speaking and listening skills, writing skills, vocabulary knowledge, language awareness and reading comprehension. There is a significant relationship between campus journalism participation and language proficiency among elementary school learners. Domains of campus journalism participation in terms of regularity of publication, quality of content, student leadership and awards and recognition significantly influenced language proficiency. Promoting community engagement, schools can create a supportive and stimulating environment for language learning and development
