Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between the classroom environment and student engagement in elementary Home Economics (HE) education within the Division of Davao Del Sur. Creating an engaging classroom environment in HE faces challenges such as resource limitations, diverse student needs, and insufficient teacher training in classroom management and instructional strategies. Using a non-experimental quantitative design with a descriptive correlation approach, data were collected from 120 elementary HE teachers aged 30–50, averaging 10–20 years of experience, selected via purposive sampling. Validated and reliable survey questionnaires were analyzed using mean, Pearson R correlation, and Multiple Linear Regression. Results revealed a high extent of classroom environment and student engagement, both frequently evident. A strong positive correlation was found between classroom environment and student engagement, with the physical environment, classroom management, social-emotional climate, and instructional practices significantly influencing engagement. Regression analysis confirmed the classroom environment's significant impact on student engagement. The findings emphasize the need for a holistic approach to classroom environment design, addressing physical, social-emotional, instructional, and managerial components to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes in elementary HE education.
